Theoretical Probability vs. Experimental Probability
|
|
Think about it this way, IN THEORY, landing on heads up would be a 50% chance, and landing on tails up would be a 50% chance.
But experimentally, if you flip a coin 2 times, you could land on heads twice, once or zero times. The same goes for landing on tails... it could happen twice, once, or one time. |

Compound Probability:
Compound - two or more
Compound Probability - the probability of two or more events happening at the same time. The events could be the same event or different. Example: Flipping 3 coins OR flipping a coin and spinning a spinner.

There are two different words that you will see in probability problems which will help you understand how to solve them.
AND = multiply Flip a heads AND tails: 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/4 OR = add Flip a heads OR tails: 1/2 + 1/2 = 1 |
